Japan

Tokyo

To get the full Lost in Translation experience, you should not miss out on the Shibuya crossing.

For an amazing view of the city, you should check out the Metropolitan Government Building
- it's even for free!

I am not really an early bird, but going to the Tsukuji fish market was totally worth it.
It opens from 5 o'clock in the morning  until 1 o'clock in the afternoon.

If you are into modern art, you should not miss out on MOMAT.
The admission fee for students is only 130 yen (ca. 1€)

Check out Ameyoko market for teapots and other souvenirs!

Being in Japan during Sakura is really a once-in-a-lifetime thing

Yokohama

Yokohama has one of the biggest China towns in the world
and I can highly recommend to have lunch in one of the backstreets.

I got a JapaRail Pass and did what I always wanted to do:
I just took a random train somewhere - I ended up in Yokohama!

Fuji city

The JapanRail pass might be the cheapest way to get around.
You can use almost all Shinkansen trains with it and reserving seats is for free.
The best way is to check each train ride of your itinerary first
and then compare the prices as the JR pass is not
necessarily always the cheapest option.

Kyoto

Kiyomizu-dera temple

Fushimi Inari-taisha is super crowded, so if you want to snap a great picture,
you should walk up the path a bit.

Arashiyama Bamboo Grove is pretty beautiful, but not the right thing if you hate crowds.
However, there is a nice trail on the other side of the hill with an amazing view
and there will hardly be anybody.

Food

Matcha ice cream is one of the best things in the world!

Udon

For lunch you can always order meal sets which usually include
a main dish, a side dish, miso soup and rice

Gyoza

When eating Taiyaki, always opt for the matcha one (if it's available)!
