Bucharest

In my opinion, Bucharest is really underrated. The capital of Romania is a lively place and even though it still seems to be this old communist city, there are so many hidden gems all over the place.

The Romanian currency is Lei: 4.5 Lei  1 Euro

How to get from the Airport to the City Centre

For directly getting to the city centre, take the bus line 783 (end station: Piata Unirii); for a return ticket you pay 8.6 Lei.

If you are not staying around on of the bus stops, you can simply get off at Pita Victoriei and change to the metro.

In general the metro is quite handy and since you pay 20 Lei for 10 trips, it is also quite cheap.

Another option is taking a taxi which normally should not be more than 45 Lei.

Muzeul Național de Artă Contemporană

(Museum of Modern Art)

Palace of the Parliament wing E4, Izvor St. 2-4

It is definitely worth seeing the Modern Art museum in Bucharest. It is located on the backside of the Palace of Parliament and on the 5 floors of the museum everyone can find some art for his/her taste: video projects, installations, sculpture, photography, paintings, etc.

The entrance fee is 10 Lei and for students only 2.50 Lei, so there is actually nothing to lose!

Tours in the Palace of Parliament are offered for 25 Lei (13 Lei for students)

These kinds of delicious and insanely cheap pastry can be found all over the city and are definitely worth trying.

Stadio

Ion Campineanu 11

On a snowy Sunday there is definitely nothing better than having a cosy brunch at Stadio. There is a lot of savory breakfast dishes, but a sweet tooth can definitely be satisfied as well.

Pancakes b/w: 14 Lei
(The dish on the photo is not pasta, but pancake stripes with nuts and honey.)

Camera din fata

Strada D. I. Mendeleev 22

As a big tea lover Camera din fata was a paradise for me. You can choose between 151 sort of teas and the prices for a pot of teas start at 7 Lei.

Simbio

Strada Negustori 26

The restaurant is a bit hidden and looks like just another old mansion in that particular street. Once you are inside, a modern interior and a variety of food including breakfast and delicious burgers convince you that this is not just any other restaurant!

Burger: 34 Lei
Coke: 7 Lei

M60

Strada D. I. Mendeleev 2

When I entered M60, I suddenly felt like I was back in Copenhagen. The interior and the whole concept of this lovely café is really Scandinavian and the coffee in there is one of the best I have ever had in my life. If you have some work to do or just want to relax a bit, the atmosphere in M60 is perfect for that.

Flat White: 12 Lei
Cerals: 15 Lei

Bloom Specialty Coffee

Strada George Vraca 7

Hidden in tiny alley in the Old City, Bloom Coffee Specialty offers high quality coffee from three different regions in the world changing daily.
If you want to enjoy some of the delicious pastry with your coffee, you better be there in the morning before all of it is gone – you definitely will not regret it!
