How To Get From The Airport To The City Centre
The airport that is closest to Nicosia is Ercan International Airport. However, this airport is located in Northern Cyprus which is only acknowledged by Turkey and thus it can only be reached via Turkey or with a layover in Turkey.
From Ercan Airport there is a bus which stops at the central bus station in the Turkish part of Nicosia.
The bus company is called Kibhas and is located on the right side of the airport building; a ride to Nicosia is 7 TL (ca. 2.30 €).
However, if you want a direct flight from an EU-country, you should book a flight to the airport in Larnaca.
Lefkoşa/ Λευκωσία / Nicosia
As some of you might know, Nicosia is currently the only capital in the world which is still divided.
In general, the city is not really big and you shall actually not plan more than one day to discover the city centre.
Exploring Nicosia
Greek part
The Greek part actually reminded me a lot of Thessaloniki.
You can find a lot of tavernes offering Greek food and in the evening you can enjoy Greek live music in most of them.
Especially right next to the Ledra Street border crossing point there are some nice restaurants which are also rather used by locals.
Turkish part
As an EU- citizen it is not an issue to cross the border to see the Turkish part of Nicosia as well - you will simply need your ID- card.
Right behind the border you will find a bazar full of fake stuff. However, if you walk a little further, you will come to quite nice areas which are worth to be discovered!
Also, all the restaurants there offer Turkish food and everything is way cheaper ( more or less on a Turkish price level) than it is in the Greek part.
Shops and restaurants in the Turkish part of Cyprus might take Euro, however, you should rather pay with Lira, since their exchange rate will be quite high.
Girne / Κερύνεια / Kyrenia
How To Get There From Nicosia
You can take a Dolmuş (small busses you can find a lot in Turkey which leave as soon as they are full and do not have a time table) from the bus station in the Turkish part of Nicosia. It will cost 5 TL and the bus ride will approximately take 30 minutes.
The bus station is more like a huge parking lot, so you will have to ask random people around which bus to take.
Keep in mind to tell them the Turkish name of the city (Girne)!
Exploring Kyrenia
Kyrenia is a lovely harbour town with access to the Mediterranean. However, there is no beach located right in the city centre.
There is nothing particular to see there, however, you can sit down right next to the sea and the harbour simply looks stunning.
Larnaka/ Λάρνακα / Larnaca
How To Get There From Nicosia
Busses to Larnaca leave from Dionisiou Solomou Square approximately every hour and the bus ride takes an hour.
Each route is 4 €, but you can buy a return ticket for 7 €.
Exploring Larnaca
Compared to Kyrenia and Nicosia, Larnaca is a really touristic place - even if it is by far not as beautiful as the other two cities.
There is a big beach for those who are keen to go swimming in the Mediterranean.
If you are not that much into touristic places, you should walk along the promenade until the very end and stroll through the side streets there.
